Clwyd Special Riding Centre is a registered charity located in Llanfynydd, near Wrexham, North Wales. The Centre provides state-of-the-art facilities that are fully accessible and inclusive for a wide variety of equine-based activities, benefitting people of all ages with a wide range of disabilities and additional needs, including mental health and well-being.
RDA Carriage Driving
Especially adapted carriages make carriage driving accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. The exhilarating feeling of movement provided by carriage driving is both therapeutic and a great sport. Our 2km all-weather track offers a unique driving experience around our peaceful setting.
RDA Riding
We offer riding sessions for groups and individuals from the age of five. In our sessions, the horse provides a focus for a wide range of physical activities, and educational activities that help to build skills in literacy, numeracy and communication.
Independent Riding
Independent sessions offer more able riders with additional needs, the opportunity to take their riding skills to the next level.
Mechanical Horse
Our fully simulated mechanical horse offers a unique and immersive alternative to traditional riding. Equipped with an interactive screen, this innovative trainer helps build core strength, improve balance, and enhance posture — all while keeping the experience engaging and fun. Choose from trotting along a beach, navigating a cross-country course, or perfecting your dressage technique.
Hippotherapy
Hippotherapy is physiotherapy on horseback. This specialist physiotherapy utilises the specific movements of a horse to provide rehabilitation to a wide range of both adult and paediatric neurological and complex conditions. It is also proven to improve motor, sensory and language skills.
Changing Lives Through Horses
The British Horse Society Changing Lives Through Horses programme is an alternative educational provision that promotes character-building and encompasses the development of life skills and academic achievement. Delivered within an equine environment, the structured award-based programme links to the national curriculum.
Horse Agility
Horse Agility is an inclusive and engaging activity where handlers guide horses through a series of ground-based obstacles. It focuses on communication, trust, and coordination between horse and handler — all without the need for riding.
This makes Horse Agility an ideal option for participants with additional needs, who may not be able to ride, the opportunity to actively engage with horses.
When integrated into Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) programmes, it can offer a wide range of physical, emotional, and therapeutic benefits.
