Core Policies and Guidelines

Our Commitment to Our Community

Welcome to our policy hub. At our charity, the safety, well-being, and trust of our participants, families, volunteers, and equine partners are at the heart of everything we do. These policies ensure we maintain a safe, inclusive, and transparent environment for everyone involved in our therapeutic and educational equine assisted programs.

  • Safeguarding & Welfare: Our strict frameworks for protecting children and adults at risk, ensuring safe staff and volunteer recruitment, and providing accessible reporting pathways. Clwyd Special Riding Centre operates a zero-tolerance policy toward harm and abuse. All staff and volunteers undergo mandatory DBS background checks and receive certified RDA/BHS training to protect children and adults at risk. Download full Safeguarding Policy (PDF).

  • Participant Safety & Inclusion: Detailed safety measures and accessibility guidelines governing our equine assisted learning, education and therapy sessions as well as therapeutic riding, carriage driving, and hippotherapy groups.

  • RDA & BHS Compliance: Operational procedures that align with Riding for the Disabled Association and British Horse Society official standards.

  • Volunteer & Staff Code: Professional standards and expectations for the team running our Llanfynydd centre.

  • Equine Welfare & Weight Limits: Protocols ensuring the health, training, and strict safety requirements for our hard-working therapy horses.

  • Data Protection & Privacy: How we securely manage sensitive participant medical details and donor contributions.

  • Cancellations & Severe Weather: Procedures regarding session adjustments due to unforeseen weather or track conditions.
