Carriage Maintenance Volunteer for Clwyd Riding for the Disabled Association Carriage Driving group based at Clwyd Special Riding Centre in Llanfynydd, Wrexham.

Opportunity:

You don’t have to be horsey! A basic understanding of mechanics is helpful but not essential as training can be given.  We are looking for a volunteer to join our team assisting people with a disability feel the freedom and enjoyment of driving a pony and carriage.  

Duties: (friendly and supportive training will be given)

On a fortnightly/monthly/annual basis, as appropriate, and using the Bennington Carriages checklist, ensuring our two ‘funbug’ carriages are maintained in good, safe working order. 

Including:

  • Making sure tyre pressures are maintained

  • Checking tyres, shafts, swingletree and nuts and bolts for any signs of wear and tear

  • Checking & maintaining the contents of spares kits and first aid kits carried on the carriages

  • Keeping the open fronted carriage shed tidy and swept of leaves in Autumn

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the carriages

Specific requirements:

  • Maintaining our funbugs will involve some bending and low level work

  • Working out of doors, although the carriage shed provides some cover

  • Team player. Whilst this is a unique role within our team it could be shared and you will be welcomed as a valued member of our strong, inclusive and professional team of volunteers.

Hours:

For smaller regular maintenance tasks: Preferably Mondays during school terms hours flexible throughout the day between 9am and 5pm to be arranged.

For larger (e.g. annual) tasks during school holidays – any days and times to be arranged.
