Carriage Driving Session Volunteer - Riding for the Disabled Association Carriage Driving group based at Clwyd Special Riding Centre in Llanfynydd, Wrexham.
Opportunity:
We are looking for volunteers to join our team assisting people with a disability feel the freedom and enjoyment of driving a pony and carriage. A moderate degree of fitness and a willingness to volunteer within a happy and professional team is all you need; and if that’s you then we’d love to hear from you. No previous knowledge of working with people with additional needs or horses required
Duties: (friendly and supportive training will be given)
Helping as a team member to prepare for our driving sessions.
o Getting our ponies ready to drive.
o Collecting harness and other equipment required.
o Putting out cones in the arenas.
o Fetching the carriages from their lock up.
o Prepping the tea and coffee!
Assisting within the team to harness and put horses to the carriages.
Helping to meet and greet participants with a range of disabilities.
Walking beside the carriages whilst participants are driving on the all-weather, off road tracks.
Assisting the team with cleaning harness after use.
Assisting the team with stowing carriages and equipment after use .
Specific requirements:
Good teamwork is essential for this activity and therefore good communication skills are very important for interacting successfully with participants, their family/carers, and our volunteers.
Calm disposition.
Team player.
Good sense of humour.
Good mobility and an ability to walk briskly for 20 minutes.
Hours: Flintshire school term time only on Mondays; hours flexible between 10am and 3pm.
